What is MTSS?
Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a collaborative, evidence-based method for differentiating and personalizing instruction and interventions across academics and behavior. This approach aims to ensure that all students can achieve success both academically and in life.
MTSS starts with teachers evaluating the skills of each student in the class to identify those who may need additional support in areas such as reading, math, or behavior.
Students then receive targeted instruction or intervention tailored to their specific skills and levels of need. Their progress is monitored closely to ensure the effectiveness of the support.
If the achievement gap closes, the additional support is no longer necessary. If there is no improvement, the level of personalization increases, involving further problem-solving to understand each student's challenges and develop a customized plan to meet their needs systematically.
